Default The old Tascam still works.....

and thankfully, so do I.

A couple of months back, I really felt like I was losing it. May 18th my business was destroyed by a flood....I had recorded a couple tunes in my modest studio there the day before. During the next six months I was getting about 5-10 minutes most nights on the guitar right before bed and VERY little singing.

I was able to open again on 10/5, and started spending time playing catch up. A couple of Saturdays ago, I did a "test" just to see if I had anything to work with. I just started the recorder and pulled out my trusty 300.00 classical and did 5-6 songs in a row "live", just stopping the player so I could have an index point.

I went back on a few of them and added harmonies and small guitar parts. The song in my signature was the first and the others I'll post here followed.

The whole thing was inspired by a gal I know from my old hometown who writes poetry, and she had posted a new poem with a theme of the world needing love now. So I thought maybe a few love songs would be good for everyone!

Here are a few of them - hope I don't break too many ear drums

Starting with a really old Elton tune...

An original tune I wrote almost 30 years ago and I don't think I ever recorded it! Inspired by some old Ray Charles I was listening to at the time (and a certain beautiful young lady!)

An old Harry/Steve Chapin tune I used to open my shows with often:

And my take on a Keith Carradine tune from the movie Nashville...

I have one more old Michael Johnson tune that I've got to clean a phantom vocal part out of - I'll post that later.

These are the two recorded the day before the flood and never posted -

An old TVZ tune that Nanci recorded VERY early in her career that I hadn't heard previously (and I'm a big fan!)

And a Liz Longley tune that caught my ear about the same time...

Sounds really good Todd, your pipes are clear as ever and in great shape. You have a nice natural reverb in your voice.

Thanks my friend - as I noted above, I felt on the verge of losing it all. The vote of confidence means a lot!

That Elton John cover actually brought tears to my eyes.

Wow.

The Tower Song is amazing.
How you just seem to effortlessly do so many fine tunes all at once is impressive.
You have had some tough breaks, and I am happy you are still keepin' on.

Wow guys - thanks so much for your kind comments....really means a lot to me.
I feel like I'm scratching my way to getting my chops back - a short time ago I wasn't sure it would happen.
Thanks again - I was feeling a little down this morning and your words have given me a boost!

Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed them!

I have a totally new perspective on "work" after the events of the last year. I'm choosing to be about 80% as busy as I was before the flood - life's too short, and I'm going to try to slide into retirement gracefully (and sooner than later) Mom is starting to fail at a faster rate as well, so there is going to be more time spent there. Just the two of us.

Great recordings, and I hope everything works out in the ongoing wake of the flood.

(And old Tascams and Fostexes and such are awesome)

Thanks - that's a 20 plus year old DP-01FX, Blue Encore 200 for vocals and a sE Electronics SE5 SDC on the guitars.

About as simple as it gets!

Simplicity in the right hands makes for good recordings.

Yours are the right hands . Nice work. I’d forgotten how good that kind of setup can sound...
