Uplifting fingerpicking songs, for those moments with friends
Hi
My current repertoire consists of songs from artists like, John Fahey, Bert Jansch, Lighnin Hopkins, Frank Stokes, Robert Johnson, John Hurt. A lot are unknown to most people, but Baby Please Don't Go (hopkins), is a good one to play when friends want to hear something uplifting. It's also quite easy to sing to, even if it is the first time you've heard it. So, could I have some recomendations for other songs like this. Songs that have a similar playing style would be best. Thanks

Check out Mystery Train by Elvis Presley or House of the Rising Sun. Not on the blues idiom but how about Four Strong Winds by Neil Young, Stand By Me, Goodnight Irene, and Hit The Road Jack.
Hoping you get more suggestions,

Uplifting? Wuzzat? Do you mean melodically up beat, as in a lively tempo, or lyrically as in happy things to sing about? Both?
The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feeling Groovy), by Paul Simon, takes a double-shot at that. |
