You need to know how dense the material which the nut is made of - Stew Mac supplies bright white bone nuts which look similar.
As for the nut and what to do, seems like you're making too big a deal over nothing. If the nut isn't seated right, simply remove, clean slot and re-attach -- this is probably quicker to do than writing a reply or taking it up with Epiphone. Or demanding a new guitar. If nut is made of poor quality material, simply change with a good bone nut, they cost about $5 give or take. Not sure what more you are looking for from a cheap second hand imported guitar.. These are fine for the price but if you want it to play like a pro you'll have to make some alterations. |

Sorry just re-read original post and see guitar is new out of box. If you don't like the nut just change it & be done. I think the natural color looks more attractive than bright white too. For the price these are great guitars, and as mentioned a few alterations could make it a pro.

i can't quite tell, but the truss rod cover looks misaligned and is there an extra drill hole on the left?

My guess is someone installed the nut and then had to hog it out to get the strings lined up. Take it back.
