Default Yamaha G65

Gary,
I just noticed the guitars that you list on your posts and we have almost the same guitars. I have a 514, Big Baby, Yamaha G65, and a brand new Almansa 447 (flamenco).
My point of this note is to sing the praises of that old Yamaha G65. Mine was made in 1976 and has been a great guitar over the years. Today's Yamahas that I try when in guitar shops sound dead compared to my inexpensive G65.
Best wishes,
Bill K.

Hey Bill-
My G65 was built about the same time as yours. I have played other classics that run about $2k today that don't sound as good as the old G65. One luthier I talked to said they are "Gems" and should be taken care of. Mine's got a few nicks and scraped but other than that it's in great shape. I wished I taken even better care of it though.
Nice to hear from a fellow G65 owner. Your the first.

Default Yamaha

Hi - this is my first post on the Taylor forum.
I'm ... urrr ..... cough .... a Martin D28 player mostly.
But I have old 70s Yamaha FG75 (small body) and FG200 (kinda in between 000 and D). Both are sweet, the FG200 especially.
When I got the Martin I handed the FG200 to my 14 yr old son who is fast becoming a class player. But he's gonna have to wait a long time to get his hands on the Martin!!
Saw Dan Crary in London earlier this year playing Taylor - knockout gig!!

Welcome, Driveboy. Glad you joined us. I think that most people on this forum appreciate any good guitar, so no apologies for your Martin are needed. In fact, my wife and I are buying our son a Martin HD35 for Christmas. We tried one a couple of weeks ago and were blown away by its sound. I think that the mantra on this forum is "listen to your ears."
I keep my old Yamaha in my office and play it when I get fed up with meetings!
Best wishes,
Bill K.

I just got a Yamaha G65 given to me,haven`t played it yet, there were no strings on it.The neck looks straight ,have to go get some new strings and see how it sounds. It is in pretty good shape a few small scrapes but nothing major.

So I have no idea if anyone on this post is still a member, but I am about to buy a g65 for $75, sight unseen, mainly because of this post.
