Default Looking for a good Classical guitar tech in the Southeast

Anyone know of a good luthier/guitar tech who specializes in classicals? I just bought a new guitar and I need a setup which may/or may not include a new nut install. I live about 6 hours from Atlanta in NW Florida.

Thanks for your help!!

Ken:

Sal Giardina is a fantastic luthier who lives in New Orleans. Sal works on a lot of different string instruments and even built a legendary guitar for local jazz great Steve Masakowski. Although Sal doesn't specialize in classical guitars, he's the go-to guy in Louisiana for folks with concert-level classicals. He's done some fantastic work for me on some very nice classical guitars (Kenny Hill Master Series, Robert Garcia Hauser 37). Last time I was in Sal's shop, he was doing some work on an extremely nice Robert Ruck guitar. Anyway, New Orleans might be too far away, but here's Sal's website just in case:

Sal is a super-interesting guy and he's highly regarded amongst the world-class musicians here in the New Orleans area.

I don't know about specializing in classicals, but he's been at it for 35 years, pretty sure he could fix you up!

He's a heck of a nice guy too......tell him I sent you and he'll charge you double

Check around in Atlanta. Gotta be a good set-up person in Atlanta. We have a couple around Charlotte. Not Classical specialists but any good set-up person can do the job. Not sure what Guitar programs you'll find in Atlanta, but one of the schools is bound to have one. They'll know someone. If not there, I'm pretty sure U of GA has a program. Check with someone there.

Here is one you might ask. Mary Akerman at Kennesaw State University, She has the classical guitar program there. She might know a local Tech. Mary is a nice person and a fine guitar player.

I just saw that you live in NW Florida. Take the Tallahassee suggestion! Closer, in GA, would be Andrew Zohn who has the Classical guitar program at Columbus State University in Columbus GA. He'd surely know someone in S GA or N FL.

If you ever get down to Orlando check out "The Guitar Factory". Ask for Billy or Doug, the`ve been in business as Master Luthiers for over 35 years. Great stuff there.. http://www.guitarfactory.us/
