Default looking for budget nylon crossover

Hi everyone,

I'm looking into buying a good budget nylon crossover (if such a thing exists). I've been learning guitar on and off for a few years and I really love the nylon sound but classical guitar necks are a bit too cumbersome for me.
Here's what I've been looking at:

Ibanez AEG10NE ($300)
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ibanez-A...34-i1150889.gc
Lag TN66A ($200)
http://usa.lagguitars.com/?page=fp&np=53&sg=1

Alvarez RC16HCE ($200)
http://www.amazon.com/Alvarez-Regent...648558&sr=1-18
Antonio Hermosa AH-10NF ($170)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER
I've only played the Ibanez (the other three are hard to find in shops). I thought it was alright. Wasn't particularly too impressed but it may have been the noisy environment at Guitar Center. Also, it's about $100 more than the other models I'm looking at, probably because of electronics (which I don't need).
I think the Lag sounds impressive but there are no reviews on this model really and I can't seem to get my hands on it prior to buying. The Ibanez is tried and mostly true with a lot of reviews but a bit pricey for me

Any thoughts, suggestions?

Welcome to the forum, Pushpin. I think when it comes to "budget" guitars, you get what you pay for. However, there are some gems out there to be found.

In that price range, I love the LaPatrie Etude classical guitar but that's not a hybrid. Do you have a chance to play one? It's Canadian made. Many times a guitar just needs a good setup.

Also in that price range, if the guitar looks really "pretty" with a lot a bling it probably isn't going to sound as good as a plain looking guitar in the same price range.

What's your current guitar?

Cool

What is your definition of CROSSOVER...size at nut? 1 3/4" your want/need?

I'd also suggest you look to some good USED guitars. As I'm sure you know, you can get more for your $$ if you know enough to find a used model in decent shape.

Good replies, already. I'd simply add that, the only time I immediately regretted buying a guitar is the time I bought one without playing it, first.

+1 for this suggestion: you're going to get a MUCH better instrument used in this price range than you are new, and since you've been playing for a while, it seems as if you'd be able to tell a good instrument from a less good one by just trying it out.

I'd also like to reiterate the "don't buy anything you can't play first" advice that is often posted on the boards, especially in your particular budget.

Good luck!
