I play mando also. If I could not play guitar, I would probably not be able to play mando either. My mom tried and tried to get me into piano....wow what a waste of effort on her part. My dad played trumpet but I never had any interest. So????? Hope nothing happens to stop me from playing guitar.

If I was talking to myself as a kid then I would say "Go and pick up that fiddle, it is the king of all the instruments". Alas, it is too late now!

I find music to be healing. Something about the vibrations and certain tones help me with my personal and professional challenges.

I don't know why.

Maybe because of things like...

Keith Jarret - The Köln Concert, or
Andreas Vollenweider - Caverna Magica, or
Dick Clark - 20 Years of Rock & Roll, or
Frank Zappa - Apostrophe, or
Laurie Anderson - Big Science, or
Arlo Guthrie - Alice's Restaurant, or
Jethro Tull - Aqualung, or
Tomita - The Planets, or
...you get the idea.

I don't know why. I just do.

Now, why do I play guitar? That's easy. To impress women.

Cervelo - welcome to the AGF! I see this is your first post.

I agree with the healing aspect of music. There's something special there that can lift our spirits.

Why do I like music?

This is one of those questions which, for me, can only be answered, "Because I do."

Music brings people together (whether listening or playing), "touches" your inner feelings, allows you to express yourself (and feel good about it), triggers and satisfies creativity, gives a sense of accomplishment...the list goes on.

Seems kind of weird to me to have to justify why you play the guitar. Does there have to be a reason?

Why do I like music?

I've been trying to answer that question for nearly all my life.

Both my parents were avid music fans (jazz and classical mostly) and both played an instrument in their youth.

Early on I was aware that a relatively few notes could produce unforeseeable (to me) emotional reactions in people. The fascination with this continues almost 60 years later.

“After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.” – Aldous Huxley

Music is part of the natural world. Birds, insects, primates (including us), most mammals, etc. use autonomously generated sound for expression and communication.

It's a basic instinct, like eating, breeding and breathing. I'm certain the earliest humans sang before they spoke.

As a mostly unevolved caveman, I can't tell you what "first" got me into music. Probably my mother's lullabies.

Even when life empties me out, music has always been there to fill me up.

I honestly do not know ! 8-(

I used to like melodies for the groove, some songs for the lyrics,
but the more I learned about music made me appreciate the
work of writers and musicians ! ;-)
