Well done. Congrats on your new life.

I think a prenup should be required as part of all marriage contracts. Saves a lot of squabbling and money in the end. No clogging up the courts with nasty divorce battles. Minimize money spent on lawyer fees. With the odds at about 50-50 of any marriage lasting it only makes sense.

My, now, ex-wife had more assets than I did when we got married and I was fine with signing a prenup. I was 40 and she was 35, so we weren't kids with nothing to lose. I would also have suggested it if the situation was reversed.

No reason for a lack of civility. Because people shouldn't be with each other doesn't mean they should be mean or disrespectful.

No harm, no foul.

But the surprise in realizing my instruments weren't at risk was more than pleasant!

Wait a minute! How much does she have wrapped up in jewelry?

Jewelry prices are all over the place. Most were inherited from her grandmother and mother, the minority of the pieces bought.

I'd say she spent less on jewelry than I have on instruments, regardless of their value now.

If I had to break it down, I'd have to say it's close to being even. The key is not having to sell anything!

I laugh and say good for you both! Did a similar divorce about 8 years ago, split everything down the middle and used a mediator to do most of the paperwork. Saved a lot of legal fees. We keep in touch (kids) and I'd say that life after divorce has been a positive experience for both of us. Enjoy the guitars.
