Default MBE's Webber Sitka/Mahogany MJ Build Thread

Well folks, this build is officially underway so it's time to start the all-important build thread!

I had been in touch with David about commissioning a Mini-Jumbo with a spruce top. I wasn't 100% sure which spruce I wanted, or what back and sides, but I knew I wanted this to be the "strummer" of my stable, and having played some sitka-topped Mini-Jumbos of David's when I visited his shop, that's what I ultimately ended up going with.

I asked David if he had any sitka with symmetrical bearclaw, and this set is what he showed me - which will now be going on my guitar!

I asked him what he had in the way of figured mahogany...he had some really cool quilted stuff, but this fiddleback grabbed my attention - I just fell in love. Here are two photos, dry and wet:

The specs will be as follows:
Mini-Jumbo, soft cutaway
Sitka top and mahogany B/S as pictured above
cocobolo binding and rosette
24 7/8" short scale
1 11/16" nut width
No fretboard inlays
Gotoh 510's in cosmo black

David says he expects it to be done in around the 4 month mark - I can hardly wait! I'm over the moon with my cedar/maple short scale Roundbody he built for me a year ago, so I can't wait to see, feel, and hear this one! David's great to deal with and was very helpful with choosing the woods and specs. Can't wait to watch the build process as the photos come in!

Great looking set of woods (especially that mahogany), and I've really liked mahogany paired with sitka.

David does it right, for very little $$ and usually is done before his predicted delivery date. You just can't go wrong with a custom Webber.

The Mahogany is wonderful!

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I haven't updated this thread in a while so I have some time to make up here. First, the top and back after being cut (but before the cutaway):

Then, here are the sides in a mould, where you can see the final shape of the guitar taking form. I just loved the aesthetics of David's cutaway on his MJs...

Then, a few weeks ago, David sent me these photos after the body got a coat of finish. After seeing these, I'm even more in love with the flame in the back and the bearclaw in the top:

I can't wait to get my hands on it - the aesthetics have been coming together exactly the way I'd hoped, and I know it will sound big and bold - a great tonal contrast to my more mild-mannered cedar/maple Roundbody build from 2011.
