Default New Edwinson Build

Finally it's my turn for one of those threads I've been oogling all this time! My 1st custom! My build started today! To quote Steve, "we're off to the races".

After a lot of going back and forth with Steve, we came up with this:

Eclipse OM
Sinker red cedar over old growth EIR
Florentine cutaway
Ebony fretboard and bridge
Bone nut and saddle
Scale 25"
Custom neck carve
1 3/4" nut
2 1/4" spacing
Jescar-FW43080 fret wire
Light weight
sound ports
arm bevel
rib bevel

He started working on the sides today as well:

Beautiful woods, and you're in great hands with Steve! This will be fun to watch come together…

Enjoy the whole process, and I know you'll be happy with the guitar!

Salud

Paul

Congrats. She’s going to be a looker and hopefully a Diva. I’m spending some quality time with my Zephyr 00 this evening.

Hi, everyone! I have crawled up out of my burrow, now that the weather is getting nice, here on the Gulf Coast. I'm very glad to be embarking on this build for James. He's a talented player, and we've met in person, so that adds a bit more enthusiasm than usual to the project. Not to mention, the guitar James wants is EXACTLY the kind of guitar I most enjoy building.

Back in 2014, I came across six amazingly beautiful sets of forest-grown East India Rosewood (including this one), very dark, almost purple-black, with very rich figure, superb tonal character, and some proper mojo. I've built three guitars with it, and it is a dream to work with. This was one of the best of the six sets, and it's going to a great guy. The side bends are flawless, and this project is getting off to a great start.
Thanks for starting this thread, James. I've been a hermit for too long. Time to re-join human society!

Congrats on your first commission. Beautiful woods! While I have not yet had the pleasure to see or hear an Edwinson in person, I have really enjoyed his build threads here. Based on those, he is quite the writer, too!

Hi guys. Steve finally was able to finish his all "the tree" guitar (see thread in this forum - holy cow!) and said he'll be able to focus more on my guitar more now. Good news for me!

One of the many details we have discussed is how he plans to keep my guitar lighter weight. I don't like heavy guitars. The arm and rib bevels add weight, as a supporting block is necessary under them, so he plans to use a super-lightweight Spanish Cedar for those.

Stay tuned, more to come!

More progress:

The extra wood is for the Ryan style arm and rib bevels:

Dual sound ports:

This lil' girl's got some curves, huh? I see he's got some decretive binding around the ports already. Good progress!
