Default Poll: Would you like a hardshell case or a gig bag with your CF guitar?

I raised the question informally and would like to do so formally...

Yes. On my smaller guitars (X7, X10), I like a gig bag. On the bigger X20, I like having the Hiscox case. I do have the gig bag for the X20, as well, but prefer the shape and extra pouch capacity on the triangular style of the X7 and X10.

I like a hard shell case that fits the guitar well.

I prefer hard cases for the protection. My exception is the Godin Tric case which I only use for wooden guitars. Since you specifically mentioned carbon fiber I voted hard case.

For my Emeralds (x20-12 and x30), I purchased both the hard case and gig bag.

For my Journey, the original overhead softcase/bag, and their full size gig bag.

For my El Capitan, hard case only.

Cheers...

If only picking one I went with the gigbag. So nice to have something that weighs close to nothing to tote around after years of heavy wooden acoustics and their cases. I will say though that if I were gigging (which I'm not) then I would have a HSC for when others handle my instrument. If it is just me though it's a gigbag all the way.

I have a gig in the summers every morning (25 minutes morning "service/singalong" at my kids' summer camp).

It's a gig designed for carbon fiber, but the HSC is such a pain to schlep. So I bought a gig bag (Gator ProGo Acoustic) and am in love with it.

I actually have found myself (all of a sudden) without a composite guitar (el cap is in the shop at Blackbird for a major repair; regrettably traded my Super OM for a McPherson Touring which I then traded; sold the x30). So I decided on a whim one day to put one of my nice wooden guitars in the gig bag for work instead of schleping the HSC. Love it! Not going back (at least for gigs).

They all sit in their HSCs when not being used, though (except the composite ones)

I opted for the hard case when I bought my x20 but right after I got it I picked up a gig bag with backpack straps and big pockets for taking to jams.
I haven’t use the case since the first week I had it.
If I did it again I would just get the gig bag.

I bought the hard case with my first X20.

The second one will come with a gig bag, so I’ll be able to use them interchangeably. I expect that the gig bag will get the majority of the use, on the rare occasions either of them leave the house.

A gig bag. Since I mostly travel by bicycle or train.

I always use hard cases for my wood guitars but for my Emerald, I am a gig bag fan. The guitar is a lot sturdier than wood, and I love the light weight since I travel a lot with instruments.

While I own and sometimes use hard cases, 95% of the time my guitars leave the house in gig bags. Wooden guitars live in hard cases during humidifying season, but rarely leave the house. I particularly like the Hiscox cases that come with Emeralds. If I ever ordered any more hard cases, it would be Hiscox. I recently priced a new custom Emerald, but that included a gig bag as I already have an X20 case.

I don't travel by air anymore, but a hard case would be mandatory there, even with carbon fiber. The last couple of times I did travel by airline, the SKB i-Series flight case handled the chore nicely with a gig bag acting as my suitcase for less breakable clothes, etc.

It's always good to ship a "SOLD" guitar in a hard case, otherwise, I prefer the soft gig bags.

No CF guitar here, though I'm looking. Generally for wood guitars, and I don't think I'd feel differently for CF guitars, I prefer the choose of either hardshell or gigbag depending on need. Hardshell for most gigs and distance travel, gigbags for most practices/jams/cottage and footing it about.

At point of purchase I wish all guitars came with a fitted hardshell.
