Default Cover suggestions for outdoor Acoustic gigs

I have a bunch of outdoor Summer gigs lined up. Gigs are on an outdoor patio right on Lake Erie from Noon-3pm... The hottest part of the day in brutal direct sun. They do not provide any cover. Does anyone have any quick set up canopy suggestions?

10 x 10 canopy might be your best bet.

I've never come across anything portable enough to easily transport.

That's awesome that they're providing you a lot of gigs. They should really spring for some kind of canopy/umbrella for you.

Tell them that they need to provide cover. That falls under unsafe working conditions if it's hot enough. My contract states that I am provided cover from the elements.

I would think one of those 10 x 10 ez-up canopies would do.

However, it's one more largish bit of kit to carry, and if it's windy you really need to anchor it.

Cover suggestions for outdoor Acoustic gigs

Rocky Mountain High - John Denver
Here Comes the Sun - Beatles
Green River - CCR
This Land is Your Land - Woody Guthrie
Call of the Wild - Chris Ledoux

Just a few suggestions, I'm sure you'll get plenty more!

Ace hardware has cheap patio umbrellas... you would need a metal heavy base. This would work if you are 23 years old with a good back, or a good cart.

We just started doing outdoor shows as well. The first two provided no cover for us so we bought our own. After a lot of research we went with an ABCCover Commercial grade 8x8 EZ-up tent. Relatively inexpensive but very high quality. You can put it up yourself but it's very helpful to have another person.

ABCCANOPY 8'x 8' Ez Pop-up Canopy Tent Commercial Instant Tent with 4 Removable SideWalls and Roller Bag,Bonus 4 SandBags

Note: We went with the model without sidewalls which was only $129 and came with the sandbags.

Our Praise Band just played an outdoor event at the Louisiana Boardwalk this past Saturday and we used two of the 10x10 canopies. They are fairly easy to set up and even easier if you have several people to help. They are easy to transport, too.

First thing i thought of too when i read the title. ha.
easy up canopy like all suggested, a hippie wall
covering tapastry for whatever side faces the sun.
right on the lake you may have to deal with wind as well.

Just so you know, if you have to carry one of those easily available 10x10 EZ-UP type tents that they are VERY HEAVY and a PITA to transport. 40 lbs or so, maybe more. Their case has wheels, but they are all but useless in grassy terrain.

I'm kind of with The Kid on this one - it should be their responsibility to provide cover.

If you have to do it yourself, a large umbrella might be better but you still have to deal with wind and the shifting sun.

I tell venues that I need shade at the very least and without proper rain cover I cannot play - too much danger from electronics and WAY too much investment in gear and instruments to risk them getting wet. They are usually pretty cooperative.

I love being outside but prefer to play under a good cover. The EZ-ups have a tendency to collect water on the long end of each triangle of the roof, which must then be periodically pushed up to drain the collected water. Otherwise it will start leaking and perhaps tear the fabric. And when you purge the collected water, it splatters everywhere, inside and out. They are not good solutions for rain.

You should quote $150 more if you provide the cover.

I personally would not take a gig if cover is not provided.

Most outdoor gigs don't pay enough for the performers to provide their own shade/rain protection. I'm too old and cranky to put up with a hot sun gig.

Gotta love cats that don't want to carry a PA that is over 20lbs or takes more than 11 seconds to set up, but happily bring a 40lb fold-up monstrosity that's admittedly much easier to set up with two people.

Some days, I wonder why I even log on here.

The venue is responsible to provide a safe working environment. Expecting you to set up in 90 degree heat with no cover is not acceptable. You having to bring your own cover is not acceptable.

Heat stroke is a real thing, people.
