Thanks, John. The first clamp had to be reverse-engineered for the thumbscrew and the Titebond didn't take too well so that one side of the jaw doesn't open when the thumbscrew is tightened. I'll have to pry it apart. The others also needed some dialing in to get the right angle or else they'd slip. I solved that problem and sanded off the hard edges.

So you have openings in your schedule, eh? Well then, I'll try and see if I can get something during the daylight hours though I usually have the little guy in tow. FWIW he's been good about not getting in my way when I'm actively working on something.

No little guy in tow in my shop. You're hard enough to keep track of lol.

...even if we dressed him up like an elf? Aw, c'mon. Where's your Christmas spirit?

S'okay, I understand. I trip over the kid all the time anyway.

BTW, are you doing any more of the Santa's workshop stuff this year? I'd love to give that a try.

If either of you have a few extra minutes, I could use some home made Christmas ornaments for my tree.

Just sayin'.

OK. Little mini luthier clamps work for you? That's all I know how to make. I could put little red bows on 'em...? *shrugs*

BTW, Happy Gobble Gobble, Mary.

Do it and drop them in the mail. I WILL put them on my tree. It sure would be one of the most special home made tree ornamental gifts ever.

Have a happy Thanksgivin', Y'all.

Thanks for letting me come over to work on that rosette some more, John. I overdid it on the CA glue but IIRC we shellacked everything already. If that purfling doesn't stay in I won't be broken-hearted. I'll just replace the strips and rout out room for another black strip if need be.

Happy new year, dead thread. My resolution is to get at least HALFWAY through this durned thing!

John tells me I overdid it with the CA glue and that my rosewood rosette is WHITE. Hopefully the shellac did the job.

Meanwhile, I've been thinkin' (my wife and John BOTH say I'm OBSESSED) and tooling up. I spent some Xmas money at Harbor Freight and intend to go to Rockler for some supplies. Hopefully I'll be able to get over to John's soon to finish it up. What's next is still up in the air. I was thinking of working on finishing up the plates but some lurking on the OLF has me reconsidering and doing the sides and rims first.

Remember the story of the tortoise.

You'll get done in due time.

I know. Maybe it's just the holidays but not making much progress is killing me and frankly I need to do something that's not on the "honey do" list.

Speaking of which, maybe a few home improvement projects are a good primer? John has been doing a lot of stuff along those lines lately.

Persistence must dance with patience. It'll get done. Just keep pluggin' away when and while you can. I'm looking forward to seeing this baby at next year's McJam (and yes, you will have it done by then).

Hang in there, Neil...

Hopefully, Kurt. Hopefully. You are watching what kind of progress John is making on the Butterfly though, aren't you? I can't wait to play it. I'm curious to see that stash of walnut he's had acclimating up in the loft.

Meanwhile, I need to read up on the scary sharp method.

LOL Kurt, John says I need to get off my lazy butt and keep you updated. Here's what I got accomplished last night:

There's just a little bit of filling to do; the cedar tore out on the outer ring where the bit dug into the grain. I don't want to jinx my progress with musings about what's next but I've got some stuff the "get Kwakking on" here at home after I tune up some tools here in the basement. I still need to buy some chisels though.

So far your "pre-Shellacing" has held. No white out this time. Don't go cheap on Chisels. I like the Blue handled set I use I will look at the name. If you buy 1 at a time get the 1/4". I use it far more than any of the others.

I like! Beautiful rosette, Neil. See? That's progress! Good on you...
