I tried playing aluminums, but I was foiled.

I've played these on various guitars, and I agree with your assessment --- possibly with the exception that they took a few days to mellow out for me.

They're a unique sound, at least to me. More clarity, but less warmth, than my standard PB strings.... and more scooped than the D'Add NB strings. Perhaps b/c of their tone, their life fades out a little more gracefully, so I could go 30-50% longer before I'd change them. I haven't played them lately, so maybe I'll rotate in a set into the string change schedule.

I was about to ask you if you're from Costa Rica (based on your nickname) when I just read you're from Costa Rica

I do like the tone but I hate how they turn my fingers black. It also has not been my experience that they last as long as Monels- not by a long shot.

YMMV

I started using them along time ago, before Elixir's were a thing and when using magnetic sound hole pickups. They don't corrode much or turn my finger black like PB does. I find their tone to be 2-3 days old when brand new (I don't care for brash / harsh / zingy new string tone) but they stay that way for 6-10 weeks for me. White Bronze was my go-to long life string before coated strings were widely available.

You must sweat a lot. I haven't had that experience so far.

Not hardly at all, but maybe some kind of chemistry?

So far, the biggest difference between the Aluminum Bronze and the Martin Monel strings (and to some extent, the Nickel Bronze) are:

  1. slightly harder tension from the Aluminums
  2. the texture from the Aluminums is a bit rougher
  3. the Aluminums so far sound a bit fuller in terms of the sound spectrum at this stage than the Monels at the same expansion of time
  4. all that difference seems to be more noticeable with the Dreadnought (sitka/sapele) than with the Grand Auditorium (sitka/ovangkol), but in both the difference is evident.

UPDATE

My DN3 keeps sounding mellower, but still maintain the very crispy tone that makes me love the DN3 so much. One thing that strikes me a bit is the responsiveness of its plugged in setting. These Aluminum Bronze strings are a perfect match for the LR Baggs Anthem (SL). I own a Fender Acoustic 100, which I find a very transparent amp. All the harmonics are present, including the 5th fret ones, which are, for me, a great indicator of how good or bad a string and/or an acoustic pickup is.

Ok, you’ve talked me into it! I’m gonna try them on all 3 of my big guitars.

I have a couple of guitars I'm going to try these on, including my new Bedell all mahogany dreadnought that I'm finding to be a bit lacking in low end with Monels (though the lack of breaking in is probably a large contributing factor).
