I have a bit of an arsenal. I keep a few for the sake of trades. I enjoy grabbing stuff that I haven't touched in a while. I should probably play my basses soon since I've been neglecting them for quite a while.

You mentioning being an Englishman got my attention since I was stationed over there for a few years. Checked out your YouTube channel and love it!

I haven't played my '74 Guild D-50 in quite awhile, but when I wanted to try the open-D tuning for Dan Fogelberg's "The Reach", I pulled it out. Boy, did it ever sound rich!

I went through a massive sell-off/thinning of the herd about 20 years ago when I became a father.
I had so many instruments squirreled away I "rediscovered" a couple I forgot I even had! One was a Yamaha Pacifica electric I had bought with a small amp, stuck in a closet where they swiftly got buried and forgotten. I also found a nice Ibanez bass under my stepson's bed. Didn't even remember buying it. I know this isn't what the OP meant by "rediscovering" but that's when I knew: "My name is Muddslide, and I have a GAS problem."

Yes and no. I have an electric and an acoustic. When you only have two, and play both at least once a week, you are not rediscovering anything
OTH, I bought that electric in the mid-90s, played a little, and put it away for over 20 years. Took it out a couple of years ago. So maybe that counts. |

Yes, usually after a long overdue string change. If I ever feel tired about a guitar that seems to go away with fresh strings.

Yep. Me too. So my answer to the question "Do you ever rediscover your guitars?" is: yes -- every day.

Guitars are beautiful, wonderful things. But they are just things. The discovery, to me, is in the music you make with them.

As others mention, I keep most of my guitars out on racks, so they get played frequently. Fresh strings can bring about discovery, but sometimes it's just matching up the right guitar for the moment.
