Default Song Trivia

Have not had one of these for a while. I will start.

he pulls ahead on the hollercast special...he takes it, the winner...
There has been debate over the exact words. I am not sure what a hollercast special is, or even IF that is in fact what the words are.

Who was the artist? Bonus points for title and year.

Oh, and the winner is named, but I do not want to state that, as it may make it too easy.

The Steve Miller Band. "Living In The USA." From the album "Sailor," first released in October, 1968.

The actual words spoken at the very end of the song:

[spoken]
"Lefty Mudersbach is up ahead. All hope he's running right... He moves way ahead of the Howard Cam Special, and....he TAKES IT! The winner...Lefty Mudersbach... on the street side"

I thought that was it!! but when I listened to the YouTube version of the LP cut that spoken section wasn't included.

Well done. Give that man a cheeseburger.

Here's a lyric for a double cheeseburger with fries..."Once a fool had a good part in the play...If it's so would he still be here today? It's quite peculiar in a funny sort of way......"

Ah! Too easy I guess! I owe you a double cheeseburger. Do you do DoorDash? I'm going to have to hold back the fries for not mentioning Bernie. (That was quick and I thought it would be more obscure. Well, I have decided to include the fries. Congrats. If I do another lyric post I'll try to make it tougher!)

Let's up the ante - when, where, and between whom (besides Lefty) did this real-life event take place...?

Hint: It's not the obvious answer you're likely to find in your search engine, but there are definite clues in the above quote from the song - if you know how to use them...

Paging Flagger Phil...

The drag race took place on February 18, 1962, at the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, California, between Lefty Mudersbach and Glen Ward.

For his song "Living In The USA," Steve Miller actually lifted the announcer's call from the album "The Big Sounds Of The Drags!," originally issued in 1963.

The Lefty Mudersbach-Glen Ward drag, immortalized in "Living In The USA," starts at around the 21:03 mark:
