Where is that "Big Boy" locomotive heading? Union Pacific built and used them for a bit so they didn't have to pay 2 crews to run 2 engines over the mountain pass but they weren't needed after the big diesel/electrics came out!

Its leaving Altoona Wisconsin this morning for West Chicago with stops at several towns on the way, then headed back to Cheyenne via Iowa and Nebraska. Schedule is on the Union Pacific website.

It went right past the building where I contract three days a week in St. Paul, MN. I wasn't there at the time, since I come in to work early and am therefore able leave early so as to avoid all the construction zone traffic. One person took video of it and put it up on the company intranet, so I watched that. Quite a number of employees went out in the parking lot, which is right near the track to watch and wave as it went by.
