Default Used to 1 11/16" neck-any tips for getting used to my new 1 3/4' guitar?

Just bought my first 1 3/4" neck guitar.
Having a little trouble getting used to the wider neck.

Thanks,
Mike

Just keep playing and give it a few weeks. I went through the same thing several years ago and now prefer the wider neck although I still switch back and forth.

Simple - time, practice - and above all, don't fixate on it.

1 3/4 are good for fingerpicking I guess . All my guitars have been 1 11/16 . I find a musical LAG when strumming with a wider nut , others may not notice , but I do . Many a fine guitar I've backed away from - when I saw the 1 3/4 nut . Seagull is one . Never owned one . I noticed this when i played an epi , when strumming , sound between strings didnt occur as quickly as with the narrower nut making it uncomfortable for me to listen . This was a large issue for me . playing didnt seem much different but sound did . I think string apart distance at the bridge would add to what Im mentioning 2 1/8 VS 2 3/8 ?

You need more guitars with different neck widths so your fingers just give up trying to guess where they should be and are gently beaten into submission.

One and three-quarter? Well, not much experience to lend but perhaps -

I don't know what to tell you. It isn't a big deal for me.

Just keep at it. Your hands will adapt. But I suggest you also continue to play your other guitar(s) with the narrower neck as you play your new one. Your fingers will automatically recognize where they will need to go with each.

I never got used to it. For fingerstyle its perfect, but I realized I don't play fingerstyle. So I got rid of mine.

I played the same 1 11/16" neck guitar for 30 years, then got one with 1 7/8", and then another with with 1 13/16".

If I play each regularly the transition from one to another is seamless, a minute or so and my hands seem to recognize and adapt without conscious thought. If I neglect one for a while, it takes longer to loosen up.

So, I would suggest you play your new instrument every day, muscle memory will eventually take over and it should feel natural. Don't neglect your 1 11/16" neck guitar, however. Play it every day, too. Alternate at the same sitting. It will take some time, but eventually you should be comfortable with both.

I haven't even tried getting used to it, at least not beyond the stage of playing a few in guitar stores. For me, it's a good thing--there have been at least a dozen guitars in the past several years that I've passed up on because of wide nuts.

Less money into acoustics translates into more money into optics. Ever since the shift to 1 3/4" nuts, I've been building a nice collection of binoculars.

Unless you have super small hands, you'll be fine with it in a week or two if you play every day.

Hey Mike. I went to 1 3/4" also 2 years ago. Do not overthink it. Just play and you will create muscle memory. I aimed for precision at the beginning and I was playing everything VERY slow.
