For me, he has been an inspiration as a songwriter. Just a few chords, and a whole lot of empathy.

I havent read all 211 posts, so please forgive if this is redundant, but how about his last release “I Remember Everything”? Isnt it just like him to bid us farewell with such a reflective gem?

Yes, it's perfect. It seems that John knew his time was short, even before COVID. After all, the last track on his last album is "When I Get to Heaven." I think he knew he was not long for this world and was at peace with it.

My Two Cents,
sm

Im so glad the Powers that be allowed him to grace us with his presence and song as long as he did. Tree of Forgiveness, like so much of his life’s work can be summarized as “making us laugh through the tears”. He bakes all of life’s ups and downs into one delicious bisket!

Yes, so true. Only the great artists can do that -- Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Shakespeare.

TREE OF FORGIVENESS is terrific. Last year, shortly before COVID hit, I did a show of originals, but I slipped in "Crazy Bone." So much fine.

Stay Safe,
Scott

I just finished a (unauthorized) biography "John Prine: In Spite of Himself" by Eddie Huffman, ©2015 (doesn't include Tree of Forgiveness or his death last year).

I enjoyed it quite a bit. Well researched and neither overly critical nor gushing fan-boy.

While on my morning bike ride I saw this yard sign out the corner of my eye today

Bart, thanks for the book report. Sounds like a good volume to pick up.
