Shimmer is a pitch shifter putting 1 and 2 octaves above the chord or note. This effect emulates violins playing.

No, you are not the only one. When used tastefully, it’s a great effect. I use the Neunaber Seraphim for reverb & shimmer. It’s easy to turn the shimmer On/Off without interrupting the reverb. You just tap and hold the switch with your foot.

I'm a fan. Petteri Sariola puts it to good use in a lot of his tunes. Here is an example, you can hear it in the fingerpicked part in the beginning. Very much like a 'pad'.

I love shimmer reverb and went down that rabbit hole for awhile. I had a Neunaber Wet Reverb pedal that I programmed to be a shimmer. Also had at one time a Mooer Ocean Machine pedal that was just a lot of fun. But I could never tame it for live use and so both have gone away. But I could listen to The Chords Of Orion ambient drone YouTube videos all day long!

Here's a great demo of the Mooer Ocean Machine. Warning! Don't go to YouTube and start clicking on these demos unless you've got time to kill!!

I'm a certified reverb junkie.

By the way, fellow reverb lovers, its electric guitar, but if you haven't checked out the band Khraungbin yet, you need to.

That sounds really great, surprised I've not heard this effect before. I like how subtle it is, yet adds a lot of depth.

I love shim delay on my Electro-Harmonix Canyon Delay.

I think the performance overshadowed the effect here! Wow! What shimmer reverb I don’t hear it?

EHX Oceans 11 has become my go-to reverb. Its Fender tank emulation is as good as I've heard, and the shimmer is excellent.
