Indeed, I was able to get the JBL louder than the S1 with a Shure SM58. Neither speaker seems very loud at home, but the S1 is fantastic at live gigs, perhaps due to the nature of their mini line arrays. I'll have to see if the JBL is as good while the S1s are away.

That’s encouraging. Mine arrived today. I didn’t plan well, and I’m having to take the train with it. So, I guess I can confirm it is as portable as the Bose S1.

I can also report that the unit sounds very good besides being lightweight. I think it sounds better than the Bose S1 to my ears. It certainly has all the EQ power you could ever need. And, I think the reverb is more musical than the Bose S1. I didn’t crank it to “11” so I can report on the loudness. But, it is more than loud enough for my uses.

UPDATED reviews:

CON:

StephenT (Schertler JAM400 user, QSC CP8 new user, likes Bose S1): Upper midrange bump. Not flat enough voicing, weak output. Happy to find the QSC CP8 instead.

UNDECIDED:
DavidE (Bose S1 user): Honky. [Bose S1 on its way for battery slef-draining fix]

PRO:

AaroUSA (QSC K8.2 & Bose S1 user): better tone than Bose, loud enough for the use.

Guitargabor (Bose S1 user, ex-AER user): Tone is more pleasing than Bose. Loud enough for the use.

Bonedigger (Fishman Mini Charge user): Loud enough

SpruceTop (Baggs Synapse user): Happy with tone and power.

Cuki79 (SR JAM150+ & Laney AH4x4 user): I confirm the honkyness. So far, I am sold with the EQ and am ready to compromise with the intrinsic tone.

MartinGitDave: thinks that JBL sounds better than the Bose S1, loud enough. Like ther everb better than the bose.

Please tell me if I misinterpreted your toughts.

Harry Stout is a good source for information. He’s posted here in the past about various acoustic topics and equipment.

Not "Con" but not for me and my gigging situation. I can see a lot of venues where the JBL would be perfect for a solo artist. I'm just a guitar player so it's always a group setting for me, I need to carve out my own sonic space,.. have enough juice and headroom and coverage for a crowded club setting.

I've added a Fishman ToneDEQ to the signal chain, Martin 00-15>Fishman Blackstack>Fishman ToneDEQ>CP8. Sounds great, I'm happy.

Thanks again for those that participated in this thread, helped me sort out a light weight replacement for the Jam 400,.. saves my back.

I haven’t had any connectivity issues. If the fx settings aren’t per channel, that’s a real downside of the JBL. Might as well not include the chorus.

Have you installed the app? I'm running it in Demo mode and as far as I can tell, FX are applied per channel. For reverb select type and then amount for each channel. For Delay, time and level and then amount applied to each channel (including 0). Same for Chorus: speed and level and then amount to each channel. With the possible exception of reverb, I don't think it can be done without the app.

In the first video, the effects section of the app was totally misrepresented, as he didn't realize he needed to highlight the effect before making settings. I added this comment to his video. Regarding sound in the video, I prefered the JBL.

The question of Bluetooth dropout might be important if a dropout causes settings to be lost. Has anyone tested to see what unlinking does while playing? In addition, is reverb the only effect you can apply directly on the amp?

From my experience unlinking leaves the settings in place.

Yes. Installed the app. I’ll have to test to see if that first video is correct.

We did not underline it but the JBL has presets... for those who don't want to tweak.

Do you mean user-created presets? In the app's Snapshot section, I see only a saved "Factory" setting.

Also, it appears that in the app's Demo mode you can't save a snapshot. Has anyone tried saving one or two to confirm it works?

"FLAT", "SPEECH", "MUSIC", "PERFORM" are the presets.

To my ears, music makes a smiley face EQ (they don't let you see the applied EQ curve)

Aaron and Dave can you please try the "MUSIC" preset and compare to the Bose? I am pretty ure it is going to be as boomy as the Bose S1
