I'm only scrtatching the surface of pentatonic stuff in my own musical journey, but my very limited understanding ( and perhaps incorrect ) is that many folk melodies and hymns ( like Amazing Grace ) have only the notes from the major pentatonic scale.

Default My Girl

The riff to my girl is a Petatonic scale. Lays out easily in C and G

It's a pattern most suited for practicing scales, but I commonly employ a sideslip when playing pentatonics, raising or lowering the phrase a half step and then resolving, for tension-release, such as this with a C pentatonic:

C-D-E-G D-E-G-A (F-Ab-Bb-Db) C-A-G-E
