Anyone know what hex wrench for Emerald truss rod?
I'm a truss rob n00b -- anyone know which size allen wrench to use on Emeralds? Or do I need a dedicated tool?

Did you look in the case (gig bag)? Each of my Emeralds had the hex wrench in the case.

Boom! You guys rock! Found the wrench in my bag and have got most of the buzz out of the 5th and 6th strings with maybe half a turn. The screw was, as described by others, loose.

That seems strange. Tightening the truss rod straightens the neck and consequently lowers the strings, which would create more string buzz.
But perhaps it was the loose screw itself that was rattling?

hmmmm.... it definitely was string buzz. i told kevin and alistair about it and he told me to stand behind the guitar and turn the wrench a quarter to half turn counter-clockwise. is it possible they have some weird inverse truss rod?

Counter clockwise means loosening the truss rod. So the screw must have been loose while the truss rod was in a tightened position.
I don't know enough about truss rods to explain this, but at least now it makes sense.

Sounds like the nut might be file-cut a bit deep for those two strings. Like others have said, tightening (straightening) the truss rod normally would make the buzz worse.

Double-action truss rod I suppose.

That would loosen the truss rod. Is it a double action truss rod? |
