Default Jamming online

Hi peeps, is there a way to jam on line with low latency?

Thanks

not until the laws of physics change. I take part in a couple of song swaps but no jamming involved

JamKazam works pretty well. You can jump into an open jam session or create a private session with invited friends only.

My 2 brother in laws live in Chicago so we would 'jam' a couple times a week when COVID first hit. The novelty wore off so I haven't used it in a while. It definitely helped to use a patch cable to your wifi-router versus wireless. There is little to no latency when hard wired. Wireless can be a little sketchy for the obvious strength of signal issues. I used the Focusrite Scarlett Solo and it worked great.

Hi Kevin…
We all wish it were viable.

I’ve been using JamKazam for a weekly session with an old friend of mine.

He’s in New York, I’m in Minnesota. We do simple stuff - he and I play guitar, and he sings. Most of the time it’s pretty workable, as long as we leave some space - the more that’s going on, the more the latency intrudes. The biggest contributor to latency, as you might expect, is internet - typically, out of a an average 38-40ms of latency, 26-28ms is attributable to internet. Definitely use a hardwired connection - wi-fi just isn’t capable of usable results.

We did try adding a third player to the mix, but it was chaos.

We both use the video facility, which obviously contributes to the latency, but being able to see each other goes a long way toward being able to cope with it.

I really look forward to our weekly get-together - it’s two hours of fun, and worth every penny of the $10/month for the JamKazam Gold subscription. Up until January 1st this year, it was free; they introduced the subscriptions to generate revenue for development and support. Updates are at least weekly, and I’ve seen considerable improvement since we first started using it last July.

Hi e-wodo
Glad you're able to get it to work.

Wired directly means Ethernet connection instead of WiFi (for those who don't know about wiring directly to the router).

What speed is your internet both up/down?

Thanks for the clarification of my assumption

Typically about 130Mbps down, 15Mbps up. It's my only viable choice, from the local cable company. I could go to higher speeds, but not without signing a new contract with them, which I'm reluctant to do. There are well-substantiated rumours of another provider bringing fiber to the neighborhood, and I don't want to be stuck with cancelation charges should that happen.

Yep...we had 50/50 success with 3 people. 2 in different Chicago suburbs and me in San Diego. We used video as well, and it was definitely fun when it worked. We rarely had an issue with just 2 connections.
