Default What should my next guitar be?

I'm thinking about adding a new acoustic to my collection. My main acoustics are a Martin D-35 (spruce/rosewoood), Martin OM-16 (spruce/mahogany), Breedlove Pursuit Concerto CE (cedar/mahogany) and Takamine F400S 12-string (spruce/rosewood). I'm willing to spend up to around $3000 for the right guitar, preferably new. I'd like to get something different from my other guitars (i.e., not another spruce/rosewood dread or spruce/mahogany OM). I'm mostly a strummer, but I also do some fingerpicking. One candidate is a J-45, but I would also consider a smaller bodied guitar. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

A D 18 is very different from a D 35. The j 45, in the modern world, gets really good in the more expensive ranges of the model. I'd give the IRIS guitars a try too. I'd give a 00 15 a go too.

You could probably get a new J185 standard spruce/maple discounted to very close to 3k. Someday I’d love to have one but that’s just me. A lot of great choices. Good luck.

J45 or Southern Jumbo would be a great complement to what you have, in my opinion.

I'd say take a drive over to Fuller's to check out their inventory, pretty sure you'll find something you like there.

Or, you could take a drive to San Antonio and check out Guitar Tex great guys.

You mentioned, "Looking for something different".
How about an Emerald X30.
The most comfortable jumbo you'd ever play and
not affected by temperature or humidity.
They sound pretty good too.

You have a pretty nice herd already. I'm not sure what hole you're looking to fill but I would think there would be some shops around Houston where you can go test-drive a bunch. Don't force it. Wait for one to speak to you. Have fun with the process.

What about an all mahogany? Nice for strumming. How about looking at Guild's stuff; an underdog of the U.S if compared to the big three. They have the dreadnought D-20 and the 00 sized M-20, both all mahogany.

I have a D35, OM35 and 000 custom from Martin.

Last year, I ordered a Larrivee Forum VI guitar for retirement. There were 19 made and one for sale on the Larrivee Forum. These guitars have a moonwood spruce top and walnut back and sides.

I added a Venetian cutaway and anthem no cut pickup to mine and I wanted something different. I have two other Larrivees including a flamed maple parlor and all mahogany custom 12 string and all three are keepers.

Just passing this suggestion along.

Some ideas based on current acoustics…
Gibson J-45
Martin 0-15
Waterloo WL-K
Taylor 522 12-fret

Way below budget but a ton of fun…
Gretsch Jim Dandy

Looking at both acoustic and electric lineups, I’d actually recommend…
Epiphone Casino

J-45 is a good choice. There's Avalon and Furch for different things too.

A short scale, Gibson slope shoulder is a beautiful thing. I’d look at a J35, J45, or SJ. I’d also consider a Waterloo, especially with you being from Texas.

I think a Furch Walnut guitar would be a good option. Maybe in a GA shape since you are more a strummer?

Isn't the collective noun for pickinray's collection a pride?
