He really did bridge the gap between jazz and pop creating a genre that would eventually become smooth jazz. I still turn up his hits when I hear them. He will always be in with the in crowd.

I was a young lad in the 1966-time frame working at an Italian Restaurant. Our Jukebox had "The in Crowd" on it and to this day I can hear Mr. Lewis at the keyboard whenever I smell Pizza baking.

Among other kinds of musical exchanges, a buddy and I, same 1955 vintage, (too) often exchange RIP news. He's a jazz head, I'm an unapologetic rocker. Thus, it was interesting when he turned me on to RL's considerable catalog of Beatles covers.
