I'm a prog rock fan approaching 65.
I have the new 2020 album 'A Day At The Beach' by Norwegian band Airbag on order.

If you enjoy the tasteful guitar of David Gilmour in Pink Floyd then you'll enjoy Airbag too.

One of my favorites has to be Turnpike Troubadours.
Of course others...
Casey Donahew
Yarn
Stoney Larue
Avett Brothers-must see live band
And 100 more I can’t think of

Default Archive?

I love these kind of posts. There's been a few in the past that have turned me on tp people I had never heard of. I'd like to be able to quickly access this in the future for reference. Is there a way to archive it for future use. I realize that with this post I can find this in my stats.

Proggers of the world unite!

Airbag are very good and the Gilmour influence is obvious, in a similar way to Germany's RWPL. Two other very good young European prog acts are Sky Architect and Golden Caves. They are alumni of Rotterdam’s Codarts music college and can really play. The first are quite neo-prog, I suppose, sometimes bordering on prog metal but with a bit of Phish thrown in and the second, much more contemporary, crossing over to pop with great vocals. I saw Golden Caves a few years ago when their first album and EP were just out: first band of the day at the Summer's End prog festival and they sold a lot of merch!

Taylor Swift. I never knew any of her songs until last May or so. I was taking long daily walks, listening to new stuff, and she knocked me out. That was before her two brilliant albums of 2020, folklore and evermore. I think she’s one of the best songwriters out there.

I am about to hit 70. I find much of the more recent music pleasant and fun to listen to but none of it what I think of as "inspiring". To me inspiring is when you think to yourself if I could play a (fill in the blank) solo note for note I would have accomplished something. The last player I saw live who absolutely floored me was Marty Stuart on the Byrds 50th Sweetheart of the Rodeo Tour. And when it comes to lyrics it got no better than Steve Earle on The Guy Tour where he played songs from both his and Guy Clark's catalogs. You just walk away thinking if I could only write songs like those two guys.

I'm also over 70, there are a few 'newer' acts I enjoy
Pink Martini
Post Modern Juke Box
Stacey Kent
Bruno Mars
Joe Bonamassa
perhaps my favorite - Le Vent Du Nord. I've seen these guys about 3-4 times, one of the most entertaining groups I've ever seen (i don't understand French)

I get what you're saying, but I think a bit of that of nostalgia. I'm younger than the you, but the music of my youth is what inspires me the most too.

But, if you take off the subjectiveness a bit, the music today really isn't less inspiring if you know where to look.

I'm 58 and really enjoy modern music too. I like The Weeknd, Jason Derulo, Shawn Mendes and - don't judge- Justin Bieber. Yea - the kid can sing.

I'm a youthful 49yo, heh heh, but we are pretty well aligned on these artists. I'll have to check out Porridge Radio, since I've been a fan of Polly Jean since "Rid Of Me" and "Dry." I've been obsessed with Phoebe Bridgers for the last year or two (both her solo album this year and collaboration with Conor Oberst, Better Oblivion Community Center).
