I'm curious about the varnish on the dovetail. I have not considered this before. Perhaps the hide glue/dovetail joint is fine even with some overspray in the joinery area? Maybe its even an aid for later disassembly if needed. I usually mask this off. But you have me wondering now if I am wasting my time. If it fits really, really well(I don't like to say perfectly), perhaps the the hide glue will have enough bite to hold it finished? Thanks for your time. Mike

Sometimes I mask it, sometimes I don't. The over-spray is VERY easily removed.

Edited to say I think the Varnish would be thick enough to impair the fit, if I did not remove it. I've never though to try to fit it while still oversprayed. I too do not mean to say it is necessarily THAT perfect.

This morning I strung the Koa/Adi 000. This is the second guitar I've made that is very close to the Schoenberg ideal, and is under my own banner. If this were a Schoenberg, it's be an ES-000, but as a Sexauer I call it FT-000-es. This guitar has a character in the Adirondack spruce I rarely see in newer guitars, which is a diagonal flamelike marking. I imagine you can see it easily in the pictures toward the bottom of the guitar's page linked HERE. You have possibly noticed I do like all of my guitars, but I not say the are all spectacular: this one is spectacular.

Bruce, your Koa/Adirondack 000 is stunning.

I've got an Adirondack top on one of my guitars with 'similar' characteristics, but more of a ribbon stripe as it doesn't run on a diagonal like the 'flame' on yours. I believe it's an interlocking grain pattern, similar to that of Mahogany.

While “the Tree” is indeed both stunning and impressive, Koa is bothly widely variegated by comparison, and often just jaw droppingly BEAUTIFUL. These last qualities are shared to a large degree by Brazilian Rosewood as well, but flamed Koa probably gets the nod from lay observers.

IMO, of course.

Koa is my favorite wood by far. I have a flamed Koa 8 String uke, a Koa Iseman Weissenborn copy, and I still regret selling my Wingert Koa E 16 years ago.

I played one of Kathy's Koa E's sometime back there but not sure if it was yours, Matt. I remember liking the clarity and attitude of that guitar and since it was only a week or so old when I got my hands on it, I figured it would age well. If it is in the right hands, koa can be wonderful. I have not had the opportunity to play one of Bruce's koa guitars but this one sure looks like a beauty.

I must have clicked the link to the Koa 000 ten times recently, I adore the optics, and yearn to feel the vibrations and hear the tone; I’m sure it’s spectacular.

Both my last two BRW are right in there where I want them to be, but this Koa 000 makes my happier yet. It is a really special guitar IMO.

From a tonal, build, or aesthetic point of view?
