Default Broken finger devastation

I've been repairing a GS mini hog for several months now (it was pretty ruined) and today was the day I can finally play it! I thought: I'll just work on the 814 for a little bit first and finally stringing the GS can be my reward. I was cutting a cleat and broke my finger... A very important guitar finger... Less than an hour before the sweet moment I've been waiting for...

Send help.

That sucks. I was unable to play for a bit due to a bad cycling crash. Shattered my collarbone and got a really deep gash on my pinkie down to the tendon. It took me about a month before I could play finger style without pain in my right hand.

My friend is that terrible news. I'm sorry to hear that!

You should look at the positives though, at least it's temporary; even if it takes a couple months to heal. I had a friend in university who practiced waaay too much. I admired his work ethic and dedication, but he really screwed up his hand. He was practicing up to 10 hours a day everyday! He was a music student like myself so this wasn't unheard of in the department.

That was 2 years ago and he is still unable to play. He actually ended up dropping out of music school. Shame. He was a talented player.

Cheers, brother

The human body is an incredible healing machine....
Try to remain positive and pursue other interests and relationships this summer.
You might want to hide the guitar cases under the bed for a while?
Hang in there.

I can empathize! A couple of months ago, I lacerated my middle fret finger. I didn't know until 2 weeks and an infection later that I had cut a nerve. I lost the feeling on my finger tip. I was able to play, but not as well and unable to play certain songs. Just had surgery last Thursday to repair it, and if successful, I'll regain feeling in 3 - 6 months. If not, I see a lot of buzzing strings in my future.

Until then, I only get to read and write about guitars.

Sux, don't it? I destroyed my left thumb about 3 months ago in a misadventure and probably won't get more than partial use back any time soon. Full use is a clear X-ray'd guarantee of dreaming. Sooo, fretting begins anew along with a substantial change in technique. I have been able to get some very basic playing in so I'm pretty ecstatic about that. I can't touch my thumb and index finger tips together because of the damage in the hand between them. The range of independent thumb movement is about an inch but there's no strength in it. I'm working it all the time though so I expect perseverance will eventually come through as it always does. We will improvise and overthumb. Anyway, best of luck with the finger and let it heal. I have a crooked one I didn't have set and it healed all funky-like.

Ouch, really sorry to hear this. You want it to heal properly so make sure you let it. That's a frustrating and inconvienient injury. I wish you a speedy recovery, and for your fingers dexterity to return 100%, it will.

There must be a a life lesson in this somewhere, I just don't want to learn it. Keep in mind, this too shall pass… and in the mean time, have a couple of cold ones.

OMG! I go into meltdown if I break a fingernail - I did recently cut my index finger to the bone and that was bad enough. Hope you are a quick healer.

Ouch, that's too bad. I burned the tip of my left middle finger pretty a couple of months ago and had to stop playing for a week and a bit and that was tough. A broken finger would likely be longer than that. I hope it heals quickly.

What a bugger (to all of you with injuries), but take heart, Mr Reinhardt did pretty well!
