Default 1996 Martin HD28VS Slot Head 12 Fret **SOLD**

I’m selling my 1996 Martin slope shoulder, 12 fret, slot head dreadnought. The neck block is marked Vintage Series HD28-S. I’ve been playing dreads since the early 70’s and this is one of the nicest I’ve ever owned. It sounds stellar, plays great and is a beauty to look at…the best top silking of any I’ve owned. I’m selling it because I’m in my 70’s and dreadnoughts are no longer comfortable for me. I have a Custom OM that gets 90% of my playing time these days

The condition is what one would expect of a 26 year old guitar that has been played a lot but apparently always well cared for. The top has aged into a beautiful color and has a few nicks and dings along with some minor lacquer checking. It has a couple of marks on the EIR back, but surprisingly few for a guitar of this age. There are also a couple of dings on the slot head, probably from strings. Pre-War Guitars has photos of their distressing levels and this one would fall between Level 1 and 2, being much closer to Level 1. I have kept this guitar in its factory case when not being played in my humidity controlled/tobacco-free home. The case shows minor outside wear, the interior is in great condition and all latches work.

I’m asking SOLD shipping and PayPal included (lower 48 states) or (cash) for local pickup. I’m located about 1 hour north of Denver, CO. I’m downsizing to one acoustic so no trade offers please.

Now for some specs and action measurements with pics to follow.

1 ¾” mod V neck with 2 ¼” saddle spacing
Action height is .090” low E and .065 hi e
Relief is .009”
Saddle height .115”
Top to bottom of D string is .480 and a straight edge from the frets is flush with the bridge
Frets have slight wear and measure .033 tall (I assume they have been dressed over the years)

Please PM for any additional info or specific photos.

Thanks temriver! I think so too and it won’t really break my heart if it doesn’t sell.

That is my dream Dreadnought. However, like you, I’ve transitioned to smaller bodied guitars or I would be all over this one. Good luck with the sale.

I have a ‘95 or ‘96. If you’ve never played one of these please consider it. These are awesome guitars.

I completely agree slothead! I've read '95 was the first year of production. I wonder if the success with the Vintage models was a precursor for the Authentic line?

Totally droolworthy!

I had the mahogany version of this guitar, and loved it.

Can't beat a 12-fret dread!

Some serious interest, but still available. So let’s give this a bump on a cold, snowy Tuesday afternoon.

Several interested members have asked for photos of the blemishes mentioned in the ad. Here are some examples of the worst dings and lacquer checking.
