Imports and customs
Anyone ever had a custom guitar built and shipped from a foreign country? All new to me. Who pays the duty and how is it collected? How much is it? Does it make a foreign custom built guitar too expensive to buy? I can buy a Silver Creek made in China for less than $200. Can't be much duty on that. Who pays the duty on such a purchase? I've heard some means of shipping can avoid all that. Anyone know how that's done? Thanks

Good question, though I was a little taken aback by the mention of a $200 guitar in this part of the AGF.
I have no experience in importing/exporting custom guitars. This makes me an expert! I suspect the rules on this vary widely, depending on the country of origin and destination. And I predict that everyone will want the other guy to pay these costs. cotten |

i am from Spain. whenever i order a guitar from the US i have to pay an extra 21% of duties over the value of the guitar. isn't that sick? i don't know how much it is the other way round
