Another new mic
In my quest to find "the perfect mic" I just pulled the trigger on a new old stock Samson (don't laugh) CL5. This mic is supposed to be a clone of the Neumann KMS105. I happen to own the 105 and will be doing an A/B comparison once I get the Samson.
I own many great mics already including; Blue Encore 100, 200, 300 EV CO9, ND 767 Shure Beta58a in wired and GLDX wireless AKG C5, D5 Deluxe, and a Perception wireless handheld and lav, as well as P420 Sennheiser e935, e945 and e965 Heil PR20 and PR35 Audio OM2 Neumann KMS105 MXL 990, 991 Ltd Ed. 990 in white/blue I hope the Samson will be my go to live mic at church.

Hi Yamahaguy,
I will be glad to see how you find the CL5, particularly for rear/side rejection. I'm looking for something that can reject as much bleed from my acoustic guitar as possible. I record vocal and acoustic into 2 x mono tracks but the bleed from the acoustic into the vocal mic is a problem. I have just got the Aston Spirit mic (multi pattern) to try out the fig 8 position but I'm finding that it isn't much different to using the cardioid position in terms of rejection. The fig8 null is a very narrow band, so it hasn't worked for me, in fact I found the fig8 on the Rode Nt2A much better so maybe I will go to that one..?. Although I must say IMO the Aston Spirit mic is indeed an excellent vocal mic and sounds just as good on acoustic guitar too. Disappointed about the fig8 though..? Will keep a watch on your post for further info from you Alan |

I've had the same issue. My solution is to put a sound hole cover in the guitar and plug in using my ToneDexter. It doesn't totally eliminate bleed, but it greatly reduces it, and the sound I get from the ToneDexter is near-mic quality.

You need a Miktek PM9 in that mix!! It has become my go to for live performance among a few of those you have listed. Just one more....... ; )

When recording with guitar and vocals, I pan (left) my vocal and pan (right) my guitar. I use a soundhole plug too.
That Miktek PM9 is one on my radar now in addition to the Telefunken M80.

I use a Miktek PM9 as well. Very good sound for a dynamic mic.

I got Samson finally. It is physically a tad smaller than the Neumann but looks identical aside from badging. The low frequency response is the biggest difference from the Neumann. The Samson's low end is rated at 100hz and that is very evident in initial testing. I have yet to test it with speakers to see about feedback rejection. Stay tuned.

The mic has a 100hz hi pass filter in its circuitry and sounds amazing! It's a keeper. I plugged into the same channel I normally use with my EC ND 767a, added the required phantom power and whoa...perfection. No plosives. Crystal clear mid range and hi end sparkle. I like it a lot. I won't be selling my KMS105, but as least I can leave this one and not have to worry as much if it gets stolen or if something happens to it.

Thanks Yamahaguy,
Have you any info to ad about its ability of rear noise rejection re bleed from acoustic when recording 2 x tracks vocal and acoustic together..? Best Regards Alan |

I'll try to take it to my "studio" (my room at school where my recording stuff is set up) next week and let you know.

Sure would like to find one of these Samson mics but they are near impossible to find anywhere. Any leads (new, not used) are appreciated!
