Dauphin 25 Model (Japan 1985) Solid or Laminate?
I own a Dauphin 25 model that was made in Japan. I purchased it around 1985 as a college student. It has been with me ever since, and the tone from the cedar top and rosewood back and sides has grown more and more beautiful over the years. I really think that the cedar top and back and sides are solid, but thought maybe I could get an opinion from the "Classical" forum. Thoughts? Thank you for your two cents!

I'm guessing a high grade all laminate. Does the edge of the soundhole show three layers? Sometimes it's difficult to discern. The top's stripings seem to be what is more characteristic of laminate tops - they have visual qualities that I've not seen on solid tops. Quality laminate tops can sound very rich.

I'm pretty sure it has a solid Western Red Cedar top and laminated back and sides. As mentioned above, you can check the soundhole edge for the top
construction. Last edited by Carey; 11-27-2019 at 05:26 PM. |
