Default Wild Horses - Rolling Stones - Acoustic Cover

Sticky Fingers .. 1972-ish .. My first Rolling Stones album (ya..."album").
Amazing.... Wore it out and bought another and then the CD.
Every song was great.. One right after the other.

Richards and Taylor at their best.
The album had some killer guitar tone and playing ..

Then there's the slow track Wild Horses .. to bring it down a bit.
I believe it was recorded down in Muscle Shoals AL in 1969...

Anyways.. I enjoyed playing this one today.
A few clams... But I got through it!

Jake, I agree with Glenn - your J45 is a very warm, great sounding Gibson - perfect for this song. Nice singing and playing - you’re picking some great songs to record!

It is my understanding that a lot of The Stones early work was in open tuning. Because it just sounds better than in standard tuning. Worth a look.

Thanks so much for the comments..
Ya, this '08 J-45 is very warm sounding with it's Adi top.

I was lucky when I found it last year.
Bought it on a whim... sight and sound "Unseen".
But it's a good one for sure.

Thx!

Thanks Seagull.

You are correct... I've played around with Stones tunes in open G.
Really cool sound! I haven't mastered it completely though.

According to Keith's book (Life)... On Wild Horses, he started out with a 6 string (open E) .. Then got the idea to use a 12 string (open E).. He messed around with the tuning to tune the 12 string to "five string mode" ..which according to Keith meant a 10 string guitar.

Your welcome. I always wondered why playing RS stuff never sounded right to me. What a revelation when I found out about open tunings. I have read that a lot of things played in open tuning can be simpler to play.

For a while I've been meaning to dedicating one of my guitars to open G so I can do me some Keef stuff. Although it's not a Tel, I think a Strat played clean with the right tuning would be the way to go since I only have one acoustic which I leave in standard tuning.

Have you tried staying in standard and tuning down or capo-ing up so that you can get your vocal range more in the sweet spot?

Ya.. I could take a stab at acoustic Gimme Shelter!
But it certainly works better on an electric guitar..

ya! I used to have my Tele tuned to Open G.
Electric through a dimed tube amp or with distortion pedal works real well..

I LOVE the opening riff to Can't you hear me knockin' and Brown Sugar !

THANKS as well for the comment about the vocals.. Ya.. I need to tune down and try singing. I think it's time!

Jake, good timing for me... I just printed out the chord chart to Wild Horses yesterday and started listening to covers and playing the song this morning. I have listened to about 20 different covers... of all of them, I like your guitar cover the best... some really fine, tasty ornamentation and fills from the band. Your vocal timing and phrasing are just a bit different, in a very good way. Great cover!

For some reason this song was calling to me... I really appreciate you sharing your ideas... I am going to steal a few if you don't mind.
