Default K&K with K&K pre-amp!!!

I've had a K&K western mini in my Gibson for a while. But, I've never used it with the K&K pre-amp. Got the Pure pre-amp today...wow....Can't really explain it but it sounds way better with it than with a bagg pari DI, or the Fishman platinum...glad I got it!!

That' been my experience too with the K&K PWM... much better with one of their preamps.

can someone define 'much' in the much better?

I just installed the pickup tonight, and WWOOOWWW!!!

I am very surprised at how nice it is. Way better than any UST.

I am pluggin directly into my apogee one and it already sounds great. So how much better can I expect out of a K&K preamp?

Also, if I'm plugging the output of the preamp into a snake, should I get the xlr? Or will it not make a difference from plugging into a normal direct box?

Default K&K is the BEST!

A Lot. K&K pickups match their preamps the best.
Impedance thing.

There are other pre amps that match up with the K&K - Orchid for one. It might be surprising, but my experience is the Orchid is substantially better than the K&K.

Default There is one other preamp that truly outshines K&K pre's w/ the mini

Aloha,

Glad that K&K combo is working for ya, Songwriter.

Oh, and let's not forget the Pendulum SPS-1 among preamps. The K&K mini really shines through those CLASS A electronics & fully parametric EQ. Just an intro/reminder for those who don't know about that unit or think it's not practical.

After reading some older posts on the K&K preamp, it seems one advantage is that the bass is a bit more balanced, getting rid of a low frequency thump. Is there anything else I can expect from trying the K&K preamp? Does it change the sound characteristic apart from balance? More natural sounding?

I do not have a problem with the balance currently, so I'm debating whether this is worth a try. Anyone willing to post a with/without audio sample?

Compared to what?

How are you amplifying?

For now I am simply recording into my DAW. I will eventually use it through a PA system.

Try the Red Eye. It's phantom powered and sounds great with my K&K.

I use the Avalon U5 DI with the mini and think the sound is good. lately, I was thinking about using the pure pre, the bass on the U5 can be a bit much at times.
