I bought mine when i was going to college -the first decent acoustic
I ever bought - That i still own ! ( '71 ) You will not regret getting it , but If i recall those Firebird electric are pretty **** good in their own right - they might be close in price . Look into that first ! play the D-55 as well and see if you like the neck - They only get better with age

But, a little deeper digging has uncovered forum discussions around the web where the first three digits of the serial number (C182***) indicate it was built in Oxnard. There does seem to be some confusion, though, between the Oxnard and Corona builds. I'm not going to worry about any of that, though. This is a fine guitar (even came with a feedback buster) that I intend to play the bejeesus out of... |

I haven't plugged the guitar in yet. It's got the L.R. Baggs Anthem system from, what I've read, seems like a pretty decent system. I'm excited to start playing this thing! |

These were changed to gold open gear Gotoh tuners during the New Hartford era and continued through with the present Oxnard guitars.

Yeah, so far I'm not finding much to not like about this guitar. One thing about being away from playing for so long is that I don't have any callouses. My fingers are screaming right now! |

Second, if it's 2018, then it's out of the Oxnard plant, as Bruce says. If it's got a label inside saying it's out of Corona, then it's not 2018 but rather 2002 or thereabouts. Either way, that is one spectacular guitar! Major congrats!

So, you really bought an Oxnard D55e with a very nice hostory for 1.150,- in the guitar lacking COVID-year of 2021!?! I almost cannot believe that. Congrats, congrats, congrats!
The D55 and the D-18MD are the favorites in my herd. Plug it in and be surprised once more! BTW, this guitar sounds also very nice with light (12-54) strings, I'm switching between lights and mediums. Enjoy that beauty in good health!

Yeah, that surprised me when I got my F512. That's how Oxnard does it.

Congrats!
There's probably a Firebird forum someplace where they'd say you made a mistake, but don't believe them! You made a great deal there! Enjoy the new Guild! |

As an owner of a wonderful D-40 from 1966, I have to point out that the first Guild shop was in Hoboken. Not sure if the D-50 and D-55 were made back then, but if so they would be from Hoboken, the first Guild factory. GTW, I think it's a shame (and of their own doing to some extent from all the moves) that made in USA Guild is not more often compared to Gibson and Martin as the oldest established finer acoustics.
