Default Unbelievable Tonewood Score

A number of storied tonewoods have appeared over the years: The Tree Mahogany, Tunnel 13 Redwood, Lucky Strike Redwood. A few years ago, I was lucky enough to procure a log that is sure to make a name for itself as well.

The story begins on an island in the Susquehanna River, about 3 miles south of Middleton Pennsylvania (map below). A friend of mine has worked as an engineer at a facility on the island for the last 40 years and has always taken his lunch breaks sitting under a beautiful Red (Adirondack) Spruce tree. The tree was large considering it was growing at the edge of its typical range. In 1979, something unusual happened. All the trees on the island began to hum in the slightest breeze. It was like there was electricity in the air. A few years ago, with the tree now 4 feet in diameter, the bank of the island eroded and the tree fell. Knowing that Red Spruce is a valuable tonewood, my friend called me and I arranged to have a portion of the main trunk shipped out here and milled into tops.

It was immediately apparent that this wood was special. Just like the humming branches, the sawn tops would hum with the slightest vibration. The tap tone was electric and full of energy. One friend quipped that the sustain had a half-life. A few instruments have now been built with it and all reports are glowing. I've decided to make these sets of "Atomic Adirondack" available today only, April 1st, for no extra charge. I would, however, suggest you order the optional lead apron for $1000.

Yes, I have one of the few guitars made from that tree. I had to switch to playing fingerstyle, though, as my picks kept melting.

It's just too much trouble to wear a lead suit while building the guitar.

Very clever and classy, Kent. I do love the sense of humor evident on this forum.

I think this wood demands a new model, maybe called "The Chernobyl". And something about how it radiates with explosive power. A disclaimer that if your next born children glow in the dark, it has nothing to do with this guitar.

Don't make too many, in case there are a rash of estate sales with these as one of the sale items...

Yeah, the Susquehanna is also infamous for oddities such as three eyed Carp!

I knew you folks wouldn't let me down on the puns and one-liner responses! One response to my newsletter was an offer to beta-test one for me.

Beta-test with or without the lead-apron shield?
