Default GS Mini Rosewood-Issue?

Because there is no local dealer, I ordered one from an on-line dealer I've dealt with before (I've found their set ups to be good). It arrived Friday. As expected it plays good and sounds great.

The "issue" is with the finish on the rosewood veneer. The finish material was absorbed into the rosewood so deep as to leave what I would call "holes" all over the back and sides. Looks like it should have been sanded and given another coat. I've been told by both the dealer and Taylor that this is "as expected" and is not considered a blem.

To others who have a recent mini-rosewood, is yours like I've described or not. Doesn't really show in photos.

Thanks!

I just bought one a few weeks ago. I haven't noticed anything, but I'll give it a once over when I get home.

OK, so I gave my Mini the once over, and I didn't notice anything odd about the finish.

Thanks. I looked it over again and while I guess I would consider it "open pore" as the dealer says it is meant to look, it isn't too objectionable. The pattern of the veneer is really nice and you only notice the holey nature of it if you turn it in the light and are close to it. So............I guess it's normal.

I also looked at close ups of the backs on Sweetwater's site and they exhibit the same texture as mine so - all is good!

Rosewood is a very porous wood. It takes a lot of finish to fill it. This finish on a GS mini is totally normal.

Open Pore finish is how they are manufactured. Totally normal. Helps in controlling production costs to meet a price point. Several manufacturers have open pore finishes.
