Recording your practice
Whenever one of my students asks me how they can improve their playing, I usually tell them this:

Super valid points. I'll often practice outside where there is a decent amount of ambient noise and my playing feels to seamless. But then when I record in a silent room, there are countless little things such as string or finger noise, high/low balance, and even noise from postural changes that appear on the recording.

Wise advice I need to follow more for sure. Thanks for posting this Mr. Walker.

Coincidentally, I’ve just started to record myself. Turns out I’m not as good as I thought I was...😀

Good idea for an introspectve approach to learning. I take one on one lessons and we are doing them on Skype right now and I record them. It is interesting how much I don't retain two minutes after the lesson ends and how helpful it is to be able to go back over it.
