Good luck with that.

I retired last year, but cannot quite get the hang of it.

1 year and the countdown begins. It may not go all the way to a year either as its a bit subjective.

Assuming the finances aren't the issue what is it your not getting the hang of?

Congrats Barry, I am hoping to pull the plug on work pretty much the same time you are.

I suppose that there's some merit to having a year to prepare for retirement, but I'm probably too impulsive to have drawn it out that long before that final walk out the door. I can't remember for sure, but think that I had a couple of months lead time to file my papers with the Virginia Retirement System. Fortunately, there was a terrific person in my agency's HR dept who was able to make the process a very smooth transition. I left at the end of the calendar year based on the retirement system's protocol for COLA increases. Best wishes to the OP on navigating the next 12 months and his future retirement...

Retired 3 years ago and it seems like yesterday. Time flies faster than it ever did. I need that "Retirement Plan" T shirt too. Buying and playing acoustic guitars wasn't the original plan but it's how it worked out, thank God and an understanding wife. She's got 7 impatient months to go... Hope she doesn't start an expensive hobby too, it'll put us both back to work. Your retirement will come sooner than you think, pre-congratulations on your upcoming life of leisure.
