Looks like I'm late to the game on this thread, but I'll chime in.
I have to wear a suit and tie to work for my day job. Casual day just means slacks, sport coat, no tie.. So when I play music, I certainly am "dressing down" from that level, but I like to wear nice shirts. I have many nice button and collared shirts that are meant to be worn untucked. I wear them with nice jeans and nice boots. That's sort of become my "uniform" for gigs and what people expect when they see me outplaying. I don't criticize how anyone else dresses, it's simply your own business decision. But I do believe the more professional one presents themselves, the more respect you generally get. Dress for success!! I'm hopeful it helps make up for my less-than-stellar skills!
