Default Vox VX50 AG combo amp

Has anyone checked this amp out? The feature set looks nice. In my case,
it would mostly be used as practice amp and possibly very small gigs.
Should one spend the extra bucks on a Loudbox Mini?

Thanks.

At 9 lbs, less than half a Loudbox Mini or Mini Charge, I would be interested in someone's review vs. a Mini.

You could hook up a 12v battery to the 19v back panel input and it might run acceptably.

Default Vox is OK

There is a paucity of chatter about the Vox VX50AG not only on this forum, but elsewhere. As of this writing, few user reviews from Sweetwater & none at ZZounds where I procured a blem for $195. Overall it's a decent amp, but apparently unpopular.

I A/B'd it to a sibling's Fishman Mini & the Fishman wins hands down. The Vox has its virtues, but also is imperfect. There is AC hum from the gigantus wall wart. Ironically, I wanted a wall wart so I can hack in a 19v battery, which I did & it works perfectly with no hum & is obviously portable & solarable (!!). In this way it's less expensive than the Roland AC-33 or Fishman Mini Charge.

Sonically, with no comparison, it's natural & loud enough. I like 8" cones, but in this case I think it would have sounded punchier with a 6.5" speaker. It doesn't sparkle like a Fishman, but has fairly deep bass. It'll hold a U-Bass. Thus, I think Vox's trio of this design - Acoustic, Bass, Keyboard - are essentially cookie cutters with tweaks for each instrument.

Amongst the few reviews I've read, there were complaints about lack of volume or distortion. My opinion: if you are a serious acoustic guitar player or singer/strummer, settle on Fishman, AER, or other bonafide acoustic amps. Conversely, a little adventure might be in order if you want to try out this Vox beast.

Wow, an old thread revived. Shortly after posting this, I found a dealer
with the mini and the Vox, and I did a quick comparison.
The Vox was ok, but had a full but bright character. I decided pretty
quickly that I would rather spend the extra for the mini.

The epilog is that I bought a Boss Acoustic Singer Live when they came
on sale at $299 and am very pleased.

I have a 2011 VOX AG150 that sounds nice and has a good feature set but I haven't auditioned the smaller VOX VX50 AG.
