Saw The DGQ tonight
Been Grisman fan forever, but tonight was the first time I’ve seen him. Wow, what a show
It was day one of the bluegrass festival here in Portland. Frank Vignola was fantastic on guitar with the DGQ. I was secretly hoping he would not bring out the archtop, and he didn’t. He play what looked like a older Martin OM or 000 with just a mic. Stellar acoustic tone. Tomorrow morning I’ve got a workshop with David Grier, Scott Nygard... what a weekend. Here’s the lineup: http://www.rivercitybluegrass.com/html/lineup.html |

I'd have given anything to have caught the couple of live concerts he did with Stephane Grapelli at the Paul Masson Winery back in the late 1970s. I have the LP, and the "King of the Gypsies Medley" still gives me chills!

One of my all time favorite recordings is Grisman and Grapelli playing "Misty". I would have also loved to see them play together. |

I went to his mando workshop this morning, which turned out to be him and David Grier sitting and jamming in a tiny room acoustically. I was beside myself
