Yeah when you are a manual laborer it’s hard to have any extra curricular activities because you feel like you just need to rest and recharge your batteries. But I try and set time aside for guitar. I am very careful when I work, I always wear gloves and am especially protective of my left hand (I’m a flat picker so as long as I can hold a pick with my right hand I’m good).

My orthopedic surgeon was a keen ukulele player .... and yet despite that he was still an excellent surgeon.
