My Latest Song
It's called GETTIN" OFF THIS TRAIN. My latest one for my new song every week to play at my Friday jam session.
AIN'T FEELIN' IT TODAY, SO WHAT'M I TO DO? I'M USELESS AS A HAMMER, TRYIN' TO DRIVE A SCREW LIFE'S PASSIN' BY, BUT I DON'T SEEM TO CARE I FEEL LIKE A TRAIN THAT AIN'T GOIN' ANYWHERE Rolled out this mornin', nothin' on my mind Diggin' in a drawer, no socks left to find Lookin' in my closet, no pants on the rack Feelin' like a train that's run outa track Wife said it's over, she ain't gonna stay Yep, it's really shapin' up to be a fine day Wearin' dirty clothes again, socks that stink The pantry's empty, no coffee to drink Thinkin' maybe I should go back to bed This day ain't nothin' but a trainwreck ahead Ring, ring, ring, I can't find the phone Couldn't give a flip, just leave me alone AIN'T FEELIN' IT TODAY, SO WHAT'M I TO DO? I'M USELESS AS A HAMMER, TRYIN' TO DRIVE A SCREW LIFE'S PASSIN' BY, BUT I DON'T REALLY CARE I FEEL LIKE A TRAIN THAT AIN'T GOIN' ANYWHERE Rackin' my brain, hopin' for a resolution I'm really only reachin' this conclusion This day sucks, I need it to end Feelin' like a train that won't roll around a bend LIFE'S PASSIN' BY, BUT I DON'T REALLY CARE I'M GETTIN' OFF THIS TRAIN, IT AIN'T GOIN' ANYWHERE I'M GETTIN' OFF THIS TRAIN, IT AIN'T GOIN' ANYWHERE Last edited by DaveKell; 05-22-2018 at 07:05 AM. |

I like it sounds like a good country blues tune

It definitely is. I first played it at my regular Friday jam. The tempo is very brisk. The 83 year old guy who takes lead breaks on his Tele improvised a smashing solo on it the first time through. WISH I had been recording it!

I edited a few lines to make more sense of the chronology and syllables while singing.
I changed the line "feelin' like a hammer trying to drive a screw" to "I'm useless as a hammer tryin' to drive a screw. Also, the line "feelin' like a dog that wants to be fed, and now depression's taken over my head" was changed to "thinkin' maybe I should go back to bed, this day ain't nothin' but a trainwreck ahead" completes the train references and keeps them consistent throughout the verses. This song is a real crowd favorite at open mics and my jam session and is very fun to play. The last two lines of "I'M GETTIN' OFF THIS TRAIN IT AIN'T GOIN' ANYWHERE" I was asked if that's a reference to suicidal thoughts. I said "no, it's a positive thought about trying to screw on a new mindset". Last edited by DaveKell; 05-22-2018 at 07:07 AM. |

https://soundcloud.com/user-56655734...off-this-train Here is a raw recording of this song. I played it at an open mic last night. A guy there who I thought was the most talented songwriter and guitarist appeared flabbergasted that I wrote this. He said at least 3 times "that's a great song man. That could be a hit for somebody". I hardly share his enthusiasm. I remember writing it a few weeks back and the motivation for it. I was trying to keep up my momentum of writing a song a day and nothing would come to me on this day. So I wrote about "not feeling it". Anyway, it's a fun song to play and always gets enthusiastic responses.
