I’ve become quite fond of a lot of the more “outside” or “bluegrass influenced” material these days.
Chris Thiele and Nickle Creek and various incarnations...

Sam Bush...Who plays around with the traditional and the new... And has for many years.

Tim O’Brian... Has some great tunes.

Jerry Douglas, the dobro master, has a lot of cutting-edge stuff...

David Grisman still records a wide variety of acoustic material.

And so on. I still like a lot of the traditional stuff

WOW! I almost didn't click on that Billy Strings video because..well...who wears pink glasses to play bluegrass?

That is some unique and amazing bluegrass picking. Now I'm sat here listening to his album on Amazon Music. That is one very talented player.

Don't overlook the Steeldriver's, especially the older stuff. Absolutely great playing and singing. I tend to like groups that break the mold a bit rather than playing the same old bluegrass songs over and over again. Crooked Still is another group to listen to.

I'll add a couple of my favorites. Tim Obrien, John Cowan, Chris Hillman, Darrel Scott, Bela Fleck/Abagail Washburn, Sam Bush. I'll also suggest to check out the Trans Atlantic Sessions on Youtube. Incredible sessions including top performers from both sides of the Atlantic.

So, are there any bands or solo artists out there with some more modern twists perhaps? Billy Strings and Chris Eldridge with Julian Lage come to mind, but just curious if there are others.

PS: This is not meant to be offensive to anyone who has bluegrass running through their veins. I love playing it, just not so much listening to it.
Chris eldridges other bands! The Punch Brothers! He also played in the infamous string dusters i believe. Ive basically followed any and everything that the members of Nickel Creek have done after they broke up and all of it has been fantastic.

Follow “Live from Here” on npr. Chris thile hosts and basically brings in a ton of great acts

I first became aware of Iron Horse through their album of Metallica covers, quite a while ago (2004 maybe?)
