Zoom A1 Four with separate footswitch

Hi folks

I was looking for fairly basic drum loop pedal to try to add a bit to acoustic gigs.

After a bit of a look online, I have bought the Zoom A1 Four to try as it seems to provide a good mix of features over and above drum patterns that seem to suit acoustic playing more than any other unit I have tried or heard under £150.

Has anyone else tried a separate footswitch for this? After first try, it seems like it would be easier to tweak by hand between songs then use footswitch to start/stop. Obviously separate to the expression pedal option.

Looked at SDrum and Beat Buddys but seem a bit complicated/beyond my expertise level, though liked the idea of tap tempo and adding fills. Maybe something to aspire to.

Any other suggestions for adding drum effects?
