pork pie hats and fedoras
Is it considered cool for singer-songwriter guitarists nowadays to wear a hat? I saw a few performing in my town recently and a couple tonight on 'America's Got Talent'....I mean, if it is a trend, it doesn't exactly scream 'originality' and 'individuality' for a genre desperately in need of unorthodoxy.

There's really only two choices.
Wear a hat or don't wear a hat. Both have been done for hundreds of years...so neither one is really original. I guess if you want to be original you could wear a tomato on your head.

I don't know... some people look good in hats or caps or whatever the headgear is, and some people, with big heads (like me) do not look particularly good in hats. If Harrison Ford where a guitar player, he would look good wearing his Indiana Jones Stetson. I would not.
To each his own... Regards, Glenn |

Indoors, it looks like a silly fashionista move to me. I guess my impression is that if you feel the need to draw attention to your headgear,...your music needs some help. I guess I'm alone on this one. _______________________________________________ Just got my answer here.... http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...fall_2009.html Last edited by johnnysain; 07-11-2010 at 08:41 PM. |

Hmmm, well, Carlos Santana is bald as a cue ball and you NEVER see that dude on stage without a hat of some kind.

Or anywhere else. For some, it's more than a stage thing, it's part of who they are. Those folks wear hats on stage and look right doing it.

Back in the 1960s I stumbled across my grandfather's 1930s grey Stetson fedora carefully boxed up. A real Bogart ganster looking thing. I wore it when I gigged. I liked the hat.

A tomato?.....The sad thing is if that did become a trend somehow,....there are many that would follow. |

It's OK to wear a hat.
It's not OK if the hat wears you. |

As stated above, some guys like hats and look good in them. Some guys don't. Might as well judge a guy by his pants or shoes...
