This is a bit of a late update… but the guitar has arrived! It truly looks stunning in person, with its beautifully figured Fiddleback Mahogany back/sides with gorgeous Etched Copper inlays for the rosette, headstock and back.

Despite its small body and short scale, it has a HUGE voice, making it ideal for comfortable playing without sacrificing on the sound. Despite its relative small size, this guitar is quite powerful without a single hint of boxiness. This is what you would expect from a good luthier built guitar, but you would be surprised how uncommon it really is.

Here are the full specs:
Model: S
Top: Italian Spruce
Back/Sides: Fiddleback Mahogany
Upper bout width: 10.25”
Lower bout width: 14 3/8”
Lower bout depth: 4.25”
Scale length: 24.75”
Body length: 18.75”
Nut width: 1.75”
Saddle width: 2.25”
Rosette: Etched Copper "Penrosette"
Inlays: Matching Etched Copper Headstock and Back
Fretboard: Ebony
Binding: Ebony
Bridge: Ebony
Case: Hoffee

My photography skills are still lacking and it was very difficult to capture the amount of detail on this guitar. The copper engraving, the figured wood, the detailed headstock and gorgeous tuners. I will be sharing Tom's own professional photos in the following post but you will have to make do with these for now

Check out this gorgeous Italian Spruce top which is stiff, adding brightness and punch, which gives it a very robust voice despite its small size

The back and sides are a very special set of Fiddleback Mahogany with an incredible figure.

And of course, this guitar comes with the full inlay package of engraved copper on the headstock, rosette and backstrip. The inlay pattern is Tom’s signature design called the “Penrosette”. It’s stunning to behold in person.

We also could not resist upgrading the tuners to the open gear Robson tuners, giving it a very exquisite look.

This guitar is currently FOR SALE so please do not hesitate to drop us a message!

Marcus, that is a stellar instrument! I've begun following Tom on Instagram, and absolutely love his content, not to mention his work! This is such a beautiful instrument, a subtle work of art.

We also got in a second Tom Sands; this time a Model L. It looks fantastic! This one is currently reserved, but isn't the forbidden fruit always sweeter?

Beautiful Cedar top

Lovely Madagascar Rosewood back/sides

Despite its large lower bout, it is still comfortable to play because of the Manzer wedge and laskin style arm bevel.

It has a fancy modern rosette in Macassar Ebony and brushed brass

The tuners were upgraded to the Robson 501 Lux, looking great with the Wenge neck

That quilted Fiddleback 'hog is gorgeous. "Thankfully" its nut width and string spacing are too narrow for my liking or my "buy it now" trigger finger would be all twitchy.

Default NGD - This baby has arrived!

Hello fellow AGFers

Since this thread has been well updated with build pics, I won't bore you with another build thread. Although I didn't start this build from scratch but I was well aware of its inevitable arrival and i had the opportunity to try this guitar when I last visited Marcus to pick up my Keystone. I have owned and played some really good small bodied guitars specifically Huss & Dalton, Collings, Santa Cruz and more. I am a dread lover and I am usually very picky with anything smaller than a dread. Boy can this baby sing! I have ever come across a 00 that can produce such crazy low end!! This must be a Somogyi thing?? I feel like this just completely in a different league to the ones I have come across. Whilst I didn't take it home that day, but it has always haunted me. As I had picked up the Keystone, timing wasn't right financially that day. Fast forward 12 months later, Marcus informed me that the Sands was still available and he had several pretty close calls but they did not materialise in the end. Perhaps it was meant to be, I grabbed it in a swift arrangement with Marcus and 1 week later, it is in my bedroom.
