For me the closest I've heard (and own) to being a "toneful mini" is still a Taylor gs-mini (w-mahogany top). No, it doesn't replace a "full size", but it fills in nicely and is toneful enough for me to get "lost" noodling on it...A good second choice could be an all mahogany Fender PM-TE (used for $300-400). I bought one for my 8 year old granddaughter and I enjoy playing it when I'm visiting.

I, too, play and practice guitar during ‘down time’ in my car.
I carry one of two carbon fiber models- a Emerald X7 nylon or a Journey OF660M-depending on what I am learning or practicing at the time. Both are small, shorter scale, sound well enough and are excellent travel guitar options when weather variations could cause problems with the instrument. Either of these guitars can go from jungle heat to glacier cold and be fine. There are other less expensive carbon options mentioned above that may work well for you, or at least be worth a try.
Depending on the weather where you live a wooden instrument might not survive being left in a car. This is certainly the situation where I live. Just a thought.
Good luck with your search.

I NEED tone because without it, there is no motivation for me to play...

This is the best place to avoid having to do extensive research on the topic!

Thanks in advance!
Perhaps an Ibanez PN1 in mahogany?

You could also go down to your local Jeep dealer and pick up a right side drive Jeep.
